"The Mahamudra Tsog-pa (gathering) would like to thank you from the bottom
of the heart for practicing Mahamudra - Thrangu Rinpoche"
Official letter from Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche to Lama Thapkhay (San Francisco, June, 1999.) Translation provided by David Curtis of the Tibetan Language Institute.
"Peter Barth's (Lama Thapkhay's) Piercing the Autumn Sky is written in simple language and a
clear, accessible style in order to help those on the Dharma path. Easily readable, it draws
on the author's own long-term experience with Mahamudra practice. Piercing the Autumn Sky will quench the
thirst of the spiritual seeker."
Khenchen Könchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche (1993.) Letter from Khenchen Könchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche to Lama Thapkhay for use in foreword of Piercing the Autumn Sky.
The following e-mail and photos were received at MMC in 2009:
"Dear Lama Kunzang (Keith),
Please pass on to my compliments to Lama Thapkhay (Peter) on his book Piercing the Autumn Sky which has only recently crossed my path.
'Good. good. Oh son of noble qualities! Thus it is! thus it is! Exactly as you have taught it................' - Guru Shakyamuni Buddha, Heart Sutra, at Vultures Peak.
It is an utter delight to hear another western teacher show the essence of Dzogchen/Chagchen with such clarity and simplicity. And in a wholly western context!
Lama Lena, Tsol-Pemma, India"
Addendum 2012: Later Lama Thapkhay had an opportunity to meet with Lama Lena in Chico, California. At that time he discovered that Thuksey Rinpoche (the teacher of both Lama Wangdor Rinpoche and Lama Thapkhay) had been rescued from Tibet in 1959 by
literally being carried out of Tibet to Northern India 'on the back of Lama Wangdor', Lama Lena's teacher for more than 25 years. In one way, it is amazing for descendents of the same teacher to recognize 'a bit of sameness' in each other after all these years and considering the various roads they have taken.
